After
The Lighthouse Keepers
disbanded early 1986, Greg Appel and Juliet Ward went on to
form the Rainlovers which became Widdershins in 1987 with
the addition of James Cruickshank, Peter Timmerman and Barry
Turnbull (ex-John Kennedy's Love Gone Wrong).
Three
years of sporadic playing to a devoted following and four releases
on vinyl earned them the respect
of critics throughout the country.
After a final performance on 30th March 1990 at Sydney University,
Widdershins called it a day.
Juliet
Ward and Peter Timmerman continued with a floating personnel
as Hammerhead. Greg Appel formed One Head Jet with Stephen
Appel and James Cruickshank joined The Cruel Sea.
March 2007
Juliet recorded a short set for an Insatiable Banalities podcast on Sunday 25th February, 2007.
Go here to read all about it and listen. If you want to download it, don't follow their suggested link as it's gone. Go here instead (right click and save linked file as..). Let me know if that link disappears as I've downloaded it already.
April 2006
Widdershins have finally been released on CD. The good people of Egg Records have done a fine job remastering all of their released material from vinyl and it sounds great. I was involved in sourcing vinyl and designing the covers. The compilation is arranged chronologically on a single CD called "Good Songs". It includes a 2005 liner note from Greg Appel.
If you can't get it locally, order from the Egg Records site. While you're there, you can also purchase the download single of Now You Know / Changeling / A Place in Time. Tracks 2 and 3 are the long-lost unreleased 1990 single. Pick up a copy while you can.
