indoors with only a strip of alsinite on the
centre of the iron roof to let in any outside light. Fluorescent
lighting was used in the walkways and was set on timers to give the
birds the right amount of lighting. Although water was given via an
automatic system, all other needs such as feeding and checking of nest
boxes was done by the front of the cages, no need for disturbance of
the birds, this they claim works very effectively for the big Macaw
family. After viewing this magnificent collection of birds, it was time
to take a look at their Quarantine section, were I would witness over
1200 African Grey Parrots. When we arrived in this section, I was in
total shock, seeing all those fabulous birds housed in small cages, one
after another. In this section some Amazon Parrots & Hawk
Headed Parrots were also seen, but not in numbers like the African
Greys. Simone informed me that he was waiting on the arrival of another
450 African Greys, which turned up just as we were coming out of the
quarantine section. While he and his son unloaded them and placed them
in cages, we were invited to have a look around his shop, which was on
the same premises. The shop consisted of two large rooms, with small
cages floor to ceiling on both sides. Some of the birds seen here were,
again Amazon species including Cubans, & White Fronted, Macaw
species including Hahns & Red Fronted, African species
including Senegal Parrots, & Vasa Parrots, Cockatoo species
including Coffin’s & Citron crested, other parrot
species including Hawk headed, Parrolets, & Kakarikis in all
colours. After spending a few hours taking in all the wonderful bird
species, it was time to head back into the Netherlands, back to
Joe’s place to have one more look around there, then back to
base camp.
BURUNG
BALI BIRD PARK, BALI, INDONESIA: Our trip in Europe was
coming to an end, but there was still 4 days we had to spend in Bali,
which would give us ample time to visit their Bird & Reptile
park.
After the long flight from Europe to Indonesia, it was pleasing to get
some very well deserved rest for a day, before hiring a taxi the next
day for the day to take us on some site seeing around Bali.

This country is very different to what
I was used to in Australia and Europe, but it has some interesting
features never the less. The biggest interest for me of course was the
Burung Bird & Reptile parks, which are located in Singapadu in
the centre of the Island, these we would visit on the last day of our trip.
