The Alexandrine Parrot (Page 2 of 2)
We here at Donpaulna Aviaries have been hand rearing Alexandrine Parrots for many years now, and have found them to be very affectionate and playful birds and have never been anything but impressed with the ease in which they are fed. My wife, Donna will admit that out of all birds hand reared by her
here, these along with Lorikeets are by far the most easiest. We only use spoons to feed with as we feel that this helps with spending quality time with all young birds and no unsightly accidents can occur. My Alexandrines breed well in aviaries 2.8x1.2x2metres without any problems, but I would not recommend anything less then this if possible. I believe they need some room to exercise so that they do keep in good feather.

Conclusion: These birds are now quite affordable to aviculturists, need similar conditions to Ring necks to keep, and are not very difficult to breed. Hand reared birds make good pet birds and can be easily sold. With their size, lovely calls, looks and playfulness they are a bird we will always remember having kept and breed in our aviaries here at Donpaulna Aviaries. These birds will go well in any collection, and must be considered by the everyday aviculturists.

Yours in aviculture: Paul Stevens.

NOTE: We no longer keep this species of Asiatic Parrot here at DONPAULNA AVIARIES.
