CAGES FOR LORIES: This is a bank of Suspended cages I have built for my Lories. They are 2m long x 1.2m high x 0.9m wide, and have a walkway at the rear where the feeding and nest inspections are done. Watering in these cages are done at the front, I have two watering stations set up for the Lories, one for drinking and one for bathing. They are constructed from 25mm x 25mm galvanized pipe, 25mm x 12.5mm heavy gauge wire, and have a concrete floor. As for the Lorikeet cages, these also have 100mm forest mulch on top of the floors for better maintenance.

LORIKEET DRY MIX.
2 parts Breadcrumbs, 2 parts Rice flour, 2 parts Wheat bix, 1 part Dextrose (or glucose),

1 part Raw Sugar, 1/2 part Skim milk powder, 3 pkts Farex (baby rice cereal)

1 part = 1 x 2ltr container. This is all blended together and kept in a sealed container.

My Lorikeets are all fed a 1/2 apple per pair a day, with pear, corn, orange, endive and spinach given on a regular basis. If other size measuring containers are used simply either reduce or add more of the ingredients.

This dry mix is the one I have been using for many years, It was a mix I received from a friend of mine. I have had very good success with it, so fell free to use the formula for yourself and see if it is the right one for you. By mixing it up myself I have saved on costs, I use it as my major feed source for all my lories and lorikeets.
Wet mix is given three times a week and is my own dry mix, mixed with apple sauce or blended apples, baby mixed vegetables, and hot water. It is given to the lorikeets in the morning and taken out when finished.

For hand raising our nectar eating birds we use our own formula which is similar to our wet mix, if you would like to see what formula we use, please click on the links on the following page.
